An Irish teacher became one of the most beloved figures in India's history.

On October 28, 1867, Margaret Elizabeth Noble was born in Dungannon, in what is now Northern Ireland. After meeting Swami Vivekananda in London, she moved to India in 1898 and took the name Sister Nivedita.

That same year she opened a school for girls in Calcutta, at a time when few girls received an education. She also championed Indian art, science and the growing movement for self-rule.

She died in 1911, and India still honors her with schools and colleges in her name.

Who is someone who adopted a new country and changed it?
