Every football club on Earth has an older brother — and it's in Sheffield.

On October 24, 1857, two members of the local cricket club, Nathaniel Creswick and William Prest, founded Sheffield FC in England. It is recognized as the oldest football club in the world.

A year later they wrote the Sheffield Rules, one of the earliest attempts to standardize how the game was played. Their ideas fed into the debates that shaped modern association football, years before the professional leagues we know.

Why it still matters: a hobby organized by a few friends grew into the world's most popular sport, played and watched by billions.

Which club do you support, and how old is it?
