On this day · OCTOBER 25
1760
He was just 22, and his reign would reshape two continents.

On October 25, 1760, King George II died and his grandson became King George III of Great Britain. He would reign for nearly 60 years, one of the longest reigns in British history.

His era saw the loss of the American colonies, the wars against Napoleon, the union with Ireland and the early Industrial Revolution. To Americans he became the villain of the Declaration of Independence; to many Britons he was "Farmer George," a king fascinated by agriculture and science.

Villain, victim of circumstance, or something in between? What's your take?
