Why did one book make the word Lilliputian part of the English language?

On October 28, 1726, Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift was first published in London. It told the story of ship's surgeon Lemuel Gulliver, who meets the tiny people of Lilliput, the giants of Brobdingnag and the talking horses called Houyhnhnms.

Children love it as a fantasy adventure, but Swift wrote it as a biting satire of politics, science and human pride. It became an instant success.

Nearly 300 years later, it is still read, adapted and quoted.

Which classic book do you think everyone should read at least once?
